Nicki Minaj, Lauryn Hill & MC Lyte Named On "Most Influential Female Emcees" List
Lil’ Kim and Roxanne Shante are also listed on green-label.com’s list of “The 15 Most Influential Female Emcees Of All Time.”
Hip Hop’s most influential female emcees is the focus of a recent list compiled by Green Label.
“Throughout its vast and encyclopedic history, there’s no denying that Hip Hop has been a predominately male governed industry,” green-label.com’s piece explains. “It’s almost a guarantee that the culture’s diehard enthusiasts can namedrop more male emcees than their female counterparts. Nevertheless, those same enthusiasts would be at fault to say women haven’t contributed just as much as to the culture as men, both inside and outside of the booth.”
Nicki Minaj was one of the artists mentioned on Green Label’s piece.
“Nicki Minaj trumps on the majority of her competition in Hip Hop,” the article continues. “She sells more records, gets more radio spins and sparks more conversation than the bulk of her male counterparts. An amalgamation of her pop-infused aesthetic, flamboyant personality and her affiliation with Lil Wayne’s Young Money imprint are all contributors to her continued chart dominance. Nicki Minaj’s reign isn’t appearing to slow down, either, with her third studio album, The Pinkprint, slated for release later this year.”
