Fred The Godson Talks DJ Clark Kent's Co-Sign, New Mixtape
Fred the Godson recalls getting a co-sign from DJ Clark Kent and promises a bruiser of a mixtape his upcoming Gangsta Grillz installment.
KarmaloopTV recently caught up with Bronx upstart Fred the Godson at Laced's Boston storefront. During the interview, the Godson spoke on getting a co-sign from the legendary DJ and producer Clark Kent. He said that he first met the beatsmith behind the likes of Jay-Z and the Notorious B.I.G. through a mutual acquaintance, and that Clark Kent was quik to give him his stamp of approval.
"Being co-signed by DJ Clark Kent is crazy," he said. "He's co-signed the best - Jay-Z, Biggie, and numerous other artists. It was through a mutual friend [that we met]. My man PJ from Mount Vernon, he helped bring me down to Brooklyn [to meet with Clark Kent]...when he heard me, he said, 'Yo, you're one of the greats, I'm telling you. Right now, if you keep going at the rate you're going to be crazy.'"
Fred the Godson also gave fans a look into his upcoming Gangsta Grillz mixtape Fred and Friends. He said that the tape not only sports a major lead single featuring Diddy, Meek Mill and Cory Gunz, but that the project is nothing short of album-quality material. He also added that the only thing preventing this release from going retail is the fact the he's unsigned.
"Right now, I'm working my Gangsta Grillz mixtape [Fred and Friends], which should be dropping late next month," he explained. "It's a monster, it's crazy - the single, 'Gettin' Money Pt. 2'...featuring Meek Mill, Cory Gunz and Diddy. It's only calld a mixtape 'cus of the [DJ] Drama [association] and I'm not with a label right now, but it's really better than 95% of peoples' album. People that know me know that don't even talk like and boast about anything, it's just a true story and there's a lot of hard work in there. Until everything is perfect in me and my team's eyes, we're not in a rush to sign...we're making so many moves without...for us to sign anything, it has to be worth it."
