E! says the baby arrived via scheduled C-section, and that Jay-Z is telling friends her name is Blue Ivy Carter. This is the first child for the superstar and her husband.
"Welcome to the world princess Carter!" singer and pal of the couple Rihanna tweeted. "Love Aunty Rih."
Russell Simmons also had good wishes for the new parents: "congrats to my good friends Beyonce and Jay-Z," he tweeted.

After months of rumors about her pregnancy -- including that it was fake, Beyonce is now said to be close to giving birth.
She is at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York and is "about to" deliver her first child, according to the Daily News and ABC News.
The paper attributes the news to "sources" and says that the superstar singer has checked in under the name of Ingrid Jackson.
She and her husband, Jay-Z, are said to have rented out the fourth floor for $1.3 million. ABC News reports that she checked in Friday night.
Several security guards were spotted patrolling the outside of the hospital Saturday night. And a Lenox Hill staffer confirmed to the Daily News that a patient named Ingrid Jackson was in a "labor room."
No word from Beyonce's camp.
